Amid the ongoing stand-off between India and China at the line of actual control in Eastern Ladakh, the world's highest airstrip located at 16,614 feet in Daulat Beg Oldie is expected to play a key role in helping India mobilise troops.
Senior defence journalist Shiv Aroor on Saturday (27 June) tweeted a video of an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J Super Hercules landing at the airstrip.
Unforgettable video shot from a chopper in August 2013, an IAF C-130J Super Herc lands at the worldâs highest (16,614 feet) airfield at Ladakhâs Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), establishing an air bridge that allows India to inject troops in large numbers at short notice in the area. pic.twitter.com/WEJQl8HvT0

As per Aroor, this airstrip allows Indian Armed Forces to deploy a large number of troops at a very short notice in the area.
The airstrip was reactivated in 2008 by the then former vice-chief of air staff, Air Marshal (retd) Pranab Kumar Barbora by landing an AN-32 aircraft.
The decision to reactivate it was taken to ensure that the Indian Air Force is able to maximise the logistic support it is able to provide to the Indian Army and the Paramilitary Forces stationed at the LAC.
