Amidst the noise over the Centre making Aadhaar mandatory for filing Income Tax Returns as well as other processes including getting a new phone connection, six states, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will now make all land records online, and link them to the Aadhaar of the owner.

The Government’s think-tank NITI Aayog tweeted out the following.

Following the Centre’s assertion that a duplicate Aadhaar can not be made, this would seem a logical move to ensure that all property owned by a single person is linked to a single Aadhaar, thus making it easier for the government to track benami property.
