Social media helped the Indian football team after an emotional appeal by captain Sunil Chhetri was heard loud and clear by fans who swarmed the stadium to support the ‘Blue Tigers’ during the Intercontinental cup after his video went viral, reports The Economic Times.
Despite the fact that Sunil Chhetri’s heartfelt message asking the fans to support Indian Football became the most shared tweet last year, the ace footballer says he’s always been very conscious of social media and its usage.
“Social media is a two-edged sword, and I would like for it to be used to spread only positivity, which is not always the case. There are so many people out there doing fantastic things and to see them get a shot in the arm because of the reach social media has, is heartening,” Chhetri said, while emphasising on positively using social media.
Despite having over 1.5 million followers, Chhetri is moderately active on social media and says it is not something that occupies his mind. “It’s like a conversation. I’m not sure if it deserves too much thought,” he said.
