At least three local Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. This was the second such successful operation against the terror outfit within three days. The group, which is sponsored by Pakistan, had killed six policemen, including an officer, of the Jammy and Kashmir Police last week.
The encounter started late Wednesday night when militants were spotted travelling in a vehicle in New Colony Kakapora area. The slain terrorists have been identified as Majid Mir, Shariq Ahmad and Irshad Ahmad. Three AK-47 rifles and war-like dumps of ammunition have been recovered from their hideout.
As the forces started search operation, the contact was established and encounter began. As soon as the news of encounter spread, locals targeted security forces using stones to help the trapped terrorists.
Jammu and Kashmir Police department’s Special Operations Group, 50 Rashtriya Rifles and 183 Central Reserve Police Force battalion were involved in the encounter. An officer of 50 Rashtriya Rifles sustained injuries during the encounter.
