The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) plans to set up vertical silos at a cost of Rs 4.15 crore for storing ghee used in making the world famous laddus and other prasadams of Tirumala Sri Venkateswara temple.
The temple trust also plans to set up an additional boondi making kitchen close to the one outside the temple complex, thereby increasing its production capacity of laddus from the present 3.75 lakh to about 6 lakh a day.
Thus considering the growing demand for laddus and other prasadams, the trust is planning for a proportionate increase in the storage capacity of ghee, reports The Hindu.
Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala on an average consumes a whopping 13 metric tonne of ghee on a normal day, which goes up to 15 metric tonne on special days.
TTD manages Tirumala temple which is one of the richest Hindu temples in the world. With over 14,000 employees and an annual budget of almost Rs 3,000 crore, TTD is one of most influential Hindu institutions in the country that is under government control.
