In a bid to transform Uttar Pradesh into a major religious tourism hub, the Yogi Adityanath led state government is planning to build 1,038 new Ganga Aarti sites in the state, Hindustan Times has reported.
These new Ganga Aarti sites will be situated in Bijnor and Ballia districts. Villages which fall in a 5 kilometre radius will perform these Aarti. The Tourism Department which is spearheading this initiative will engage the common public to ensure its success.
"Starting with Bijnor, this series of aarti will continue till the last village of UP, situated on the banks of the river Ganga in Ballia", an official has been quoted as saying.
In addition to the Ganga Aarti, the ancient and historical religious places and temples in these villages will also be developed as tourist attractions.
Ganga Aarti is one of the most iconic features of the holy city of Varanasi. Every year millions throng to take Darshan of the pious event held on the banks of the river Ganga.
