Trinamool Congress MP Santanu Sen, who on Thursday (22 July) snatched papers from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha and tore them, has been suspended from the Upper House for the entire Monsoon session.

The development comes after Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan moved a motion in the Rajya Sabha for Sen's suspension.

The motion was passed by a voice vote and Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu asked Sen to leave the House.

Naidu said that he was deeply distressed by the course of events in Rajya Sabha yesterday. "Unfortunately, proceedings of the House hit a new low with papers being snatched from the Minister and torn into pieces. Such actions are a clear assault on our Parliamentary democracy," he said, reports India TV.

Earlier on Thursday, Sen, who was the former president of the Indian Medical Association, snatched papers from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha and tore them while the minister was making a statement on the Pegasus issue.

Responding to the incident, Union Minister Vaishnaw said that the Trinamool was bringing the same kind of culture of violence that it has in Bengal to the Parliament.
