United States (US) President Donald Trump has decided to delay the G-7 summit which the US was set to host this time, reports Hindustan Times.

Announcing his decision to delay the summit, President Trump reasoned that he was doing so given he didn't feel that the G7 properly represented what's going on in the world. He added that it is a very outdated grouping of countries.

President Trump emphasised that he would want to invite India, Russia, South Korea and Australia to attend the summit as well. However, it was not clear if he wants these nations to only join the summit as guest nations, or be included in the grouping of nations as permanent members.

It should be noted that India was invited as a guest nation in last year's G-7 summit which was hosted by France. Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi had flown to the French city of Biarritz to participate in the meeting.

Meanwhile, it should also be noted that the grouping was earlier called G-8 Russia as its members. However, Russia was expelled from the grouping in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea.
