Twitter User Requests Elon Musk To Build Tesla Gigafactories In Asian Nations Except China, He Agrees

Entrepreneur and Tesla owner Elon Musk recently hinted that a new gigafactory of his electric car-manufacturing company might come up in Asia, outside China, Hindustan Times reported.

The Tesla chief executive officer was responding to some queries on Twitter.

The clean energy company Tesla already has an operational facility in China -- gigafactroy, which is established in a large 93,00,000-square feet area. The facility mainly produces Tesla Model 3 sedans.

A user namely @spaceguy_24 on Monday (6 July) asked Musk if he had plans to expand such mega factories in other parts of Asia.

To which, Musk responded in affirmative and said this will be done after finishing the in-development facilities in Germany's Berlin and another in the United States (US).

"Yeah, but first we need to finish Giga Berlin and a second US Giga to serve eastern half of North America," he wrote.

Indian authorities, after the COVID-19 pandemic which purportedly originated in China, have been aiming at attracting major companies to setup units in the country.

The Tamil Nadu government last month had written to many leading automaker companies across the world, inviting them to invest and setup units in the state.

However, possibilities of a Tesla facility in India will largely depend upon country's consumption of electric vehicles, which at present is not at a promising level. Among asian countries, China, Japan, and South Korea have the highest EV demand. Although, China-like cheap land and labour might act as an attracting force for such investments.

According to reports, Tesla has been looking for alternative locations to move its large units outside US and Musk has been travelling places to find suitable options around the world.
