Ace wrestler and two-time Olympics medallist Sushil Kumar has been sent to six-day judicial custody in connection with the brawl which had broken out at Delhi’s iconic Chhatrasal Stadium on 4 May, culminating in the death of a young wrestler, reports Livemint.
This came after Delhi Police nabbed the 37-years-old wrestler and his 48-years-old associate Ajay (alias Sunil) yesterday morning from Delhi’s Mundka area. Kumar had been absconding ever since the news of the brawl broke out on 4 May.
It should be also be noted that the Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Kumar and his associate, respectively.
Following his arrest, Kumar was physically produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra’s court. After questioning him there for about 30 minutes, the Police had asked the court for 12 days of custody for further interrogation.
During the proceedings, Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava told the court that Kumar's custodial interrogation was required to unearth the whole conspiracy and motive behind the crime. Thereafter, the court granted the police six-day custody.
