The Maharashtra Assembly speaker Nana Patole on Wednesday (26 December) refused to allow a discussion on opposition BJP’s demand to move a resolution honouring Veer Savarkar on his fifty-fourth death anniversary, ANI has reported.
This refusal came after the BJP demanded the introduction of a resolution in the Maharashtra State Assembly to honour Veer Savarkar.
Incidentally, Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena which once was a staunch supporter of Veer Savarkar, has been accused of going back on its principles after joining hands with Congress-NCP.
Infamously a noted dramatist Yogesh Soman was sent on forced leave from Mumbai University and warned of strict action for criticising Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against Veer Savarkar.
In response to Rahul Gandhi refusing to apologise by stating that “his name is Rahul Gandhi and not Rahul Savarkar”, Soman said that he neither has any quality of Savarkar nor of Gandhi.
In the video Soman also condemned Rahul Gandhi’s “pappugiri” and asserted that the former Congress president is not even qualified to assume the surname Savarkar.
