In a bid to boost the air connectivity for the two newly established Union Territories (UTs) of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Modi Government has invited bids for launching flight services for as many as 11 airports in J&K and two in Ladakh under the Government's flagship UDAN scheme, reports DNA India.
The bids have been called under the fourth round of UDAN scheme which commenced on 3 December. The fourth round of the scheme is focused on boosting air connectivity in hilly states, northeastern regions, various islands and in the UTs of Ladakh and that of J&K.
To encourage the airlines, big and small, to start flight operations from the unserved or underserved airports under the UDAN scheme, the Government has provided an additional 25 per cent viability gap funding (VGF).
In Ladakh, the bids have been called for airports in Kargil and Thoise. Meanwhile, in J&K, bids have been called for airports in Akhnur, Chamb, Chushal, Fukche, Gurez, Jhangar, Miran Sahib, Panzgam, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur.
