Under former chief minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis in last five years, Maharashtra deported 2 Pakistani and over 1,471 Bangladeshi nationals illegally living in the State, reports The Hindu.
Sharing the figure on in Maharashtra Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar observed that a large number of citizens from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan are illegally resident in the State, making implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) important.
Bhatkhalkar also pointed out that as many as 12 Bangladeshi nationals had been arrested in Mumbai's Nalasopara area in this one week alone. The same was also confirmed by State's Home Department which stated in a report that 12 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested as they could not produce a valid passport.
Following the development, Speaker of the House, Nana Patole directed the Home Department to make a written submission on the matter before the end of Winter Session of the House.
