The Yogi Adityanath led government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) presented Rs 5.5 lakh crore budget for 2021-22 on Monday (22 February), presenting the budget UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna has allocated Rs 101 crore for the construction of Maryada Purushottam Shriram Airport at Ayodhya.

This budget will likely be the last budget of the BJP government, before the state goes to polls in 2022. It is also UP's first paperless budget.

In November 2020, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet passed the proposal to rename the upcoming Ayodhya airport as Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram Airport.

The airport in Ayodhya aims at handling the surge in international and domestic tourist traffic once the grand Ram temple becomes operational. The state government is aggressively pursuing the project and work is on at a war footing.

According to official sources, the Yogi Adityanath government has set the December 2021 deadline for completion of the airport.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally monitoring the progress of the airport project, as well as other developmental projects in the holy city.

He has also taken vital steps towards realising his ambitious project — the Ayodhya 'upnagar' — a new town adjacent to Ayodhya. This project draws inspiration from the civilizational pride, aesthetics and heritage of Shri Ram's Ayodhya.
