In a unique initiative, Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath organised his first ratri chaupal in Madhupur village and took stock of the various government schemes in the village, Hindi daily Navbharat Times has reported.
The government officials responsible for the government schemes were also present during the chaupal, and were asked to present the facts about various schemes being overseen by them. Several officials were rapped by Yogi on failing to provide accurate data matching the ground reality as told by villagers.
The village has a population of almost 10,000 and people from several surrounding villages had arrived to the chaupal with their grievances. Women were seated right next to the stage and Yogi asked them directly about the actual status of schemes concerning rural housing, sanitation among others.
On being told that the officials demanded Rs 20 thousand as bribe for houses under the rural housing scheme, Yogi said that properties of corrupt officials will be confiscated if the charges are proven.
He also instructed the officials to make the data about the government schemes available to the public so that transparency can be maintained.
