Led by Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh (UP) has pipped Rajasthan to evolve as the State providing the maximum number of people employment under the MGNREGA scheme of the union government, reports Times of India.

With as many as 57.2 lakh people from the state being engaged in one project or another under MGNREGA, UP now accounts for 18 per cent of the total employment generated by the scheme across the nation.

At second position stands Rajasthan, with a share of 17% of employment generated under the scheme and a total of 53.45 lakh people employed. Then follow the States of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh with a total of 36.58 lakh, 26.72 lakh and 23.95 lakh people employed under the scheme.

The state has already created over 8.08 crore man-days of work under the scheme since 21 April when the Government had begun to distribute the job cards under the scheme.

The employment push from the state government under MGNREGA comes as a major positive development at a time when more than 30 lakh migrant labourers have returned from other states to UP.
