The Uttar Pradesh government has reduced the price of the RT-PCR Covid-19 test by all the labs including privately owned in the state to Rs 1,600 from Rs 2,500, reports The Hindu.

The move by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government comes as the price of RT-PCR test kits and reagents used for Covid-19 testing have come down.

Earlier in April, the UP government had reduced the price of RT-PCR Covid-19 test in state to Rs 2,500 from Rs 4,500.

In an order issued on Thursday (10 September) evening, UP's Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said that the April order on pricing of Covid-19 test has been amended and that the maximum price of the test will now be Rs 1,600.

Now, as per the fresh order, labs in the state cannot charge over Rs 1,600 per test.

A senior health official was cited in the report as saying that the objective of the price reduction was to ensure that maximum number of people are tested.
