Minister of state for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, who has been accused by 14 journalists of predatory behaviour, has firmly said that the charges levelled against him are ‘false and fabricated’.

He has also vowed to take legal action against those have made these allegations in the recent days. Akbar, in a statement after returning from abroad, said that of late, it has become fashionable to level allegations against people without producing any evidence to prove their guilt. The charges levelled against him were out of malice and with the intention of maligning his reputation. He called this tendency to level wild allegations without proof as a ‘viral fever’, and added that his lawyers were already on the job of exploring legal recourse.

He wondered why this storm had suddenly surfaced before elections are due in various parts of the country. Calling it ‘propaganda’, he said he had done nothing wrong and that all these claims must be subject to legal scrutiny.

He, however, did not speak of resignation from his post.
