The United States (US) has accused China of carrying out a massive hacking attack against technology giant Microsoft in March earlier this year, reports Economic Times.

US' Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the hack of Microsoft Exchange, the widely used email server, was part of a "pattern of irresponsible, disruptive and destabilizing behaviour in cyberspace, which poses a major threat to our economic and national security."

Speaking in a no-holds-barred fashion, Blinken said that the US will impose consequences on China's malicious cyber actors for their irresponsible behaviour in cyberspace. He added, "The Chinese government, not unlike the Russian government, is not doing this themselves, but are protecting those who are doing it, and maybe even accommodating them being able to do it."

The US' Department of Justice also simultaneously announced charges against four Chinese nationals over the hacking of computers of dozens of companies, universities and Government bodies in the US and abroad between 2011-18.
