United States (US) President Joseph Biden has nominated his known political ally Eric Garcetti as his nominee for the next Ambassador of the US to India, reports Hindustan Times.
Aged 50, Garcetti is presently serving as the Mayor of Los Angeles. In that capacity, he oversees the busiest container port in the Western Hemisphere, the largest municipal utility in the country, and one of the busiest airports in the world, as per the information shared by the White House.
Previously, he was the co-chair of President Biden's campaign. He was also part of the committee that President Biden had appointed to look for his running mate.
Following President Biden's victory, Garcetti was also named one of the co-chairs of the inauguration committee. He was even expected to receive a Cabinet berth in the new administration.
It should be noted that President Biden's ambassadorial nominee for India will be one of the more high-profile announcements for the administration given the focus the US President has brought on ties with India, bilaterally and as part of the Quad with Japan and Australia.
