Uttar Pradesh: Mainpuri Farmer Stumbles Upon History And Heritage, Finds Copper Swords And Harpoons While Ploughing Land

A farmer in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district stumbled upon history and heritage while ploughing his agricultural field earlier this month. The artefacts, 39 in number, could be 3700-4,000 years old, reports say.

Archeologists have said that the findings are 'exciting.' Reports say that the farmer found copper swords and harpoons beneath the soil. Some swords are said to be 'antenna swords' and harpoons.

A report on the Jagran website points that the weapons were found buried in a mound of mud. The farmer was working to level the mound. The farmer took the artefacts home, thinking they were of gold and silver, says a Times of India report.

It was when other residents of village Ganeshpur reported the matter to the local police the Archeological Survey of India stepped in. The ASI will conduct a study of the artefacts, reports say.

The artefacts made of copper point to a battle ready community living in this part of Bharat. The finding could be of huge importance to the study of the people groups that might have used these weapons during a past possibly marked by strife and struggles.
