District authorities in Uttar Pradesh (UP)’s Gautam Buddh Nagar are aiming to become India’s first fully vaccinated district against COVID-19, reports Livemint.

To achieve the same, District Magistrate (DM) Suhas L Y yesterday (28 May) held a discussion with top health and administrative officials. Police Commissioner Alok Singh was also part of the meeting where the officials were asked to ensure that the dream is achieved.

As per details shared by the district administration, Gautam Buddh Nagar is second after state capital Lucknow in terms of vaccination but is first in terms of population ratio inoculated.

The administration also shared that the district has a population of about 21 lakh, and about 5.71 lakh people in the district have been vaccinated so far, which is about 30 per cent of the total targeted population. Thus, to achieve the goal, the district will still have to vaccinate about 15-16 lakh people.

It should be noted that Gautam Buddh Nagar which lies next to Delhi has so far recorded 439 deaths and has 1,930 active cases of COVID-19.
