In a significant development that boosts the development of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday (26 February) said the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation had approved the state proposal to develop an international airport in Ayodhya, reports The Indian Express.

The CM said that the union government sanctioned Rs 250 crore for operation of ATR-72 aircraft in the first phase.

The Uttar Pradesh government has named the Ayodhya airport as ‘Maryada Purushottam Sriram Airport’. While the state had already allocated Rs 1,000 crore to the district administration for land acquisition for the airport, it had allocated Rs 101 crore for its construction in the recent budget.

“All of you know that people of Indian origin or NRIs live in different countries in large numbers, and all of them desire to visit Ayodhya. Thus, the Uttar Pradesh government sent a proposal to the Government of India to develop the Ayodhya airstrip as an international airport,” said Adityanath.

“The Government of India has given its approval to the proposal of Uttar Pradesh so that ATR-72 or likewise aircraft can be operated from there and has sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the same,” he added.

The state government is aggressively pursuing the project and work is on at a war footing.

According to official sources, the Yogi Adityanath government has set the December 2021 deadline for completion of the airport.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally monitoring the progress of the airport project, as well as other developmental projects in the holy city.
