An urgent meeting of the BJP core committee took place in Dehradun on 6 March (Saturday) while the party MLAs have been in the middle of the ongoing budget session in Gairsain.

Rumours of "major changes in the government" spurred the MLAs to return to Dehradun. Sections of the media indicated the possibility of replacement “at the highest level”. Notably, the assembly polls are scheduled in the state next year.

As of now, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat seems to have "got a breather" from the Centre and some calm in the perceived resentment from some MLAs and MPs who are not happy with "his style of functioning." There were rumours of a cabinet reshuffle on 6 March and a bigger change at the helm.

The meeting of the core committee went on for over two hours. It was presided over by BJP national vice-president Raman Singh. Accompanying was state in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam. The two are likely to present their observations and report to Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda.

The meetings also took place with Members of Parliament from Tehri Garhwal Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Tirath Singh Rawat representing Pauri Garhwal and Ajay Bhatt who represents Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar.

Meanwhile CM Trivendra Singh Rawat has said on Twitter that he will be in Garsain on 8 March.

He also met his colleagues to discuss the programmes on the completing of fours years of the BJP led government in the state.
