Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive election rally in Aligarh on Sunday, called on Uttar Pradesh’s electorate to select the lotus, referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) symbol, and shun corrupt politicians of Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

This comes after he launched a scathing attack on Congress-SP alliance and BSP chief Mayawati at a campaign meeting Meerut on Saturday. The state doesn’t need ‘SCAM': (S for Samajwadi Party, C for Congress, A for Akhilesh Yadav and M for Mayawati); it needs the lotus, Modi said.

Highlighting the rising crime rate in the state under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, he said in a day more than 7,650 crimes take place which includes 24 rapes, 21 rape attempts, 13 murders, 33 kidnappings, 19 riots and 136 thefts. “Uttar Pradesh is looking for a change and we are fighting for a noble cause,” said the Prime Minister, the star campaigner of BJP.

Modi also called upon the people to give BJP a mandate similar to the 2014 general elections when the party won 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The state will witness a seven-phased election for 403 seats from 11 February to 8 March.
