Watch: Group Assaulted By Locals While Trying To Hoist The Indian National Flag In Srinagar

A group which tried to hoist the Indian tricolour at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Tuesday (14 August) was assaulted by the locals who objected to this act, Indian Express has reported. This incident is said to have happened at about 1 PM near the clock tower.

The group was believed to have comprised of six people, who are said to be non-locals. As per a Times of India report, the locals soon sensed their intentions and began chanting slogans to object to the flag hoisting.

After the locals started becoming aggressive, three members of the group fled while the others responded, which allegedly resulted in them being assaulted. Soon the police intervened and rescued the group members.

Following the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir police issued a statement claiming that some miscreants assembled at the scene to criminally intimidate the group. The police though called the flag hoisting a “political activity”.

An FIR is said to be registered in connection with the matter and investigation is being carried out. The police denied that the members of the flag hoisting group were detained.
