Train 18, the celebrated ‘engine-less’ train which is all set to replace the Shatabdi Express has been hailed as a ‘testament to the quality of workmanship and design of Indian engineers’ by the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

The minister made the comment while sharing a video demonstrating the stability of water bottles in the train as it travelled at a speed of 180 kmph.

Here is another video of the interior of the Train 18 drivers cockpit during its high-speed trials. The trial was conducted as it travelled from Sawai Madhopur to Kota Junction.

The world-class train is being manufactured at ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in Chennai, using 80 per cent indigenous components.

It is a 100 per cent ‘Make in India’ initiative. The train’s executive coach will have a maximum seat capacity of 56 passengers, the capacity of the non-executive class will be 78. The new train set will cost around Rs 5-6 crore per coach. This is 60 per cent cheaper than the global cost of similar trains.
