West Bengal: PM CARES Fund Allocates Over Rs 40 Crore For Establishing Two 250-Bed COVID Hospitals At Murshidabad, Kalyani

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund Trust has decided to allocate Rs 41.62 crores to establish two 250 bedded makeshift COVID Hospitals by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Murshidabad and Kalyani in West Bengal.

This proposal will augment health infrastructure in West Bengal to effectively manage the COVID situation.

In its endeavour to support the augmentation of health infrastructure, the PM CARES Fund Trust also helped establish COVID Hospitals in Bihar, Delhi, Jammu, and Srinagar.

Recently, a 500-bed Covid-19 Hospital at Khonmoh, Srinagar, has been set up by DRDO in a short span of 17 days.

This Covid facility includes 125 ICU beds with ventilators, of which 25 are exclusively reserved for children. Continuous oxygen supply is available for all 500 beds from 62 KL Liquid Medical Oxygen storage tanks. Hospital management and doctors and para-medical staff to run the facility are provided by the administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The hospital is centrally air-conditioned with cooling provision for summers and heating capabilities during winters to maintain a comfortable environment. There is a separate block for doctors and para-medical staff. Proper fire exits in case of emergency, provision of steel structure shed having inside refrigerator for mortuary and parking facility for vehicles have also been provided at the centre.
