With the annual punctuality rate of 91.46 per cent, the Western Railway (WR) achieved the highest ratings across all zones in FY19, reports The Hindu.
WR also went ahead in the ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ by earning, highest ever, Rs 537 crore by selling scraps material. The Ahmedabad and Mumbai divisions are among the top performers in the said criteria, earning Rs 81.03 crore and Rs 57.97 crore respectively. At Rs 1873 crore, the overall earning of WR recorded a growth of 11.46 per cent (Year on Year).
Expressing pleasure over the development, Chief PRO of WR, Ravinder Bhakar credited a policy level change to ensure that the scraps were sold every day instead of over a fixed time frame as in the earlier case.
In an aim to optimise its available resources, the WR has also increased the turn around time of coaches with each coach running an average of 572kms/day. Giving impetus to digitisation, the WR also witnessed a surge in mobile ticketing.
The UTS app found a whopping 12.54 lakh downloads, recording an increase of over 197 per cent compared to previous FY.
The WR, in it’s pursuit to promote cashless and paperless ticketing, had initiated special ticketing windows at Andheri and Boriwali stations.
