In a positive development, a remote village called Weyan in the Bandipora district of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has become the first village in the country to vaccinate all its adult population against COVID-19, reports Livemint.

As per the Governor's office, vaccinators had to walk 18-kilometres on foot to reach the village.

Elaborating on the difficulties faced by the authorities in accomplishing the feat, Bashir Ahmed Khan, who is the Chief Medical officer (CMO) of Bandipora said, "There is no internet access in the village. So it was not possible for the residents to get appointments for vaccination like the way people in urban areas do."

The village had a total of 362 beneficiaries who are aged above 18-years, who all stand vaccinated against COVID-19 now.

Meanwhile, the nationwide vaccination drive is continuing across the nation in full steam with tens of lakhs receiving their first and second doses every day via public and private channels.
