The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to make a major political announcement after the Amarnath Yatra season ends. A breakaway faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to support the BJP according to a report in News18.

Jammu and Kashmir is under Governor’s rule after BJP-PDP government collapsed after BJP withdrew from the coalition. Presently, BJP has 25 members, PDP has 28 members, Congress has 12 and National Conference has five.

Nobody is willing to face elections and nobody wants to sit out of power for quarter to three years. We have made the necessary arrangements. If all goes well with the Amarnath Yatra, we may make an announcement sometime in late August or early September," said a senior BJP leader and former minister in the recent BJP-PDP coalition, the report further stated.

A BJP leader who had spoken to News18 on the condition of anonymity reportedly said:

"Yes, we discussed government formation. It's true. We are looking at all possibilities. Maidan khaali hai (The field is empty). Everyone is looking for possibilities. Everything seems possible right now. Let's wait for the yatra to get over."

Interestingly, a PDP leader accused Mehbooba Mufti of nepotism earlier today (3 July 2018), reported Asia News International (ANI).
