While In Delhi, Don’t Violate NGT Guidelines: Gigantic Sum Of Rs 3 Crore Collected in Fines

Municipal Corporations of Delhi has collected massive fines amounting to Rs 3 crores for violation of dust control guidelines, The Hindu has reported.

The dust control guidelines have been issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to curb dust pollution. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has issued 154 challans for violation of NGT guidelines on dust control. This amounts to a total fine of Rs 2.67 crore.

However, only Rs 45 lakh was collected in the same period by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). Don Bosco School in Sukhdev Vihar was charged Rs 5 lakh fine after it was found to be violating various guidelines including lack of wind breaking walls around the construction site and uncovered construction material. The SDMC has stopped the tunnel at Pragati Maidan by Larsen & Turbo for violating NGT guidelines.

The civic bodies of Delhi are sprinkling water on roads to reduce dust pollution. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has said that 40 tankers have taken to water sprinkling of streets. The number is set to double within the next four months. The North Corporation has deployed six tankers as well as 104 tempos for the purpose of water sprinkling under its area.
