The white-topping of roads in Bengaluru will go on for ten more months and as a result, the commuters will have to go through inconveniences like traffic jams and overcrowding.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has undertaken the white-topping work to be done across 93.5 km of road stretches in the city in two separate packages. to cover a total of 14 roads.

Initial deadline of September 2018 for package-one has been pushed to November this year and the other package will be done only after the first one is over. At a review meeting, the contractors complained that they were not able to deploy enough men and material to complete the work.

Several factors like bureaucratic tensions, lack of coordination between the agencies supposed to carry out their respective work, are being blamed for the delay.

BBMP Commissioner has been quoted by Times of India as saying, “Engineers and account branch officials should ensure the bills submitted by contractors are scrutinised in time and submitted for payment. Contractors should deploy the required number of pavers so that all work is completed soon.”
