The newly elected BJP MP from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam has been quoted by media outlets as saying that his first priority as a Member of Parliament would be to send the Jinnah portrait inside the Aligarh Muslim University to Pakistan.

Gautam claimed that the Jinnah portrait is currently being kept inside a locked room in the University.

Recently a huge row had erupted when Gautam had objected to the presence of Jinnah portrait inside the AMU, following which the university had defended this action.

The university claimed that the Muslim League leader was one of the founder members of the university and was conferred with life membership of student union. The portrait has been on the walls of student union hall since 1938, university authorities said.

Student Union President Maksoor Ahmad Usmani also defended the portrait, saying “the government has been a failure and they have not been able to do anything. So by raking it they are trying to make an issue of it”.
