With 1,000 Govt And Private Labs, India's Covid-19 Testing Capacity Increases To Over Two Lakh Samples Per Day

The total tally of laboratories being run across the country to test COVID-19 samples has increased to 1,000, which includes 730 government laboratories and 270 private laboratories, reports Times of India.

With the increase in the number of laboratories, the Covid-19 testing capacity of the country has surged to over two lakh samples per day.

Making the developments public, ICMR's director-general Dr Balram Bhargava said, “This is an important milestone in the fight against corona.Since the beginning, we have been focusing on 3Ts – testing, tracking and treating to fight the disease. Through increased testing, we are fighting this virus".

"Our goal was to establish a lab in every district of the country, which we have achieved to a large extent," he added.

As of Monday (22 June), Over 71 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 across the laboratories.

Over 1.87 lakh samples were tested on Tuesday (23 June) by the labs, ICMR data showed.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday (23 June), the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 had surged to over 4.55 lakh, with over a lakh new cases emerging just over the past seven days.
