With Scores Of Cases Pending, Delhi High Court Takes Interest In Kabaddi Team Selection 

The Delhi High Court which is grappling with over seventy thousand pending cases would oversee a Kabaddi match at the New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi stadium on Saturday (15 September), Indian Express has reported.

According to the report, former Indian Kabaddi player Mahipal Singh had knocked on the doors of the High Court following the team selection by Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), for the recently concluded Asian Games. Singh had made allegations of bribery in selecting the players for the Games.

Following his plea, the bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice VK Rao had ordered that a match take place between those selected for the Asian Games and those left out to gauge the veracity of the allegations.

Amidst allegations of a delay, the match would finally take place on Saturday (15 September), for which the AKFI has been ordered to select players from across India.

This selection process would be videotaped and a copy would have to be submitted to the High Court. The court has nominated retired Delhi high court judge SK Garg who would be at the venue to observe the process.

The roster would be limited to those who participated in the national camp before the Asian Games.

As reported by Hindustan Times, as of 26 May there were 71,704 cases pending before the High Court.
