Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi said that while new plants that are being set up by two component partners have made significant progress, has faced some delay because of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Gadgets Now reports.
India Managing director of Xiaomi, Manu Jain, in a conversation with ET said, “The announcement got delayed because of the current election season. Once that’s done, maybe a few months from now, they should be able to announce (the new factories).”
Despite the manufacturing focus is on fuelling the domestic demand, MD Jain said the company are open to exporting from India in future. Xiaomi is in route to add two factories to manufacture power banks to the current seven factories for smartphones in India.
The current smartphone market leader in India is currently also evaluating a new facility for smart TVs in India. Manu Jain also said that the Chinese company has also invested in various start-ups in the internet industry in 2019. “All investments are related mobile or internet industry where we believe we could have a future potential synergy with this partner,” Jain said.
