Yogi Adityanath Government Cancels Registration Of Madrasa Which Stopped Students From Singing National Anthem

The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled the accreditation and registration of a madrasa in Maharajganj which had forced its students not to sing the national anthem during Independence Day celebrations, DNA has reported.

As reported by us a few days earlier, a video depicted Muslim clerics preventing children from singing the national anthem following a flag hoisting ceremony. One of the accused clerics was even heard saying that, Hamare yahan rashtragan nahin hogaj, nayaz hai (We do not sing the national anthem, it is not allowed).

After the video went viral on social media, the clerics identified as Maulana Mohammad Zunaid Ansari, Mohammad Alzoor Rahman, and Mohammad Nizam were booked for sedition. Rahman who is the principal of the madrasa is currently in jail.

The state government had also ordered an inquiry in the matter which was followed by the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Shiksha Parishad cancelling the Madrasa’s accreditation.

As per a New Indian Express report, a report by the District Minority Officer (DMO) had stated that the madrasa’s logistics and infrastructure were not up to the mark. The report also noted that the total students studying in the madrasa were less than what is required to be eligible for government aid.
