The community of Anglo-Indians residing on plots called the Anglo Indian Domiciled Trust Property (AIDTP) in Allahabad is on the verge of being displaced due to the beautification drive going on for Smart city project and Kumbh Mela, Business Standard has reported.
The 25 families, most of whom are living in the property for three generations, may have to vacate their premises by this month (October) due to an order by district magistrate which said that the lease for the 11 acre property expired several years ago and now the state government has the right to acquire it.
As per the report, the ATPID was founded in the early nineteenth century. When it came to the renewal, the first lease was successfully renewed but due to an alleged apathetic attitude of ATPID and government officials the second renewal could not be carried out.
Members of the community have expressed their anguished over the state government’s move of the administration.
DM Suhas L Y has said that he has no involvement in the matter and the order came from the urban development department.
Anglo-Indian MLA in Uttar Pradesh Denzil John Godin has said that he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in order to find an amicable solution.
