Yogi Government Carries Out Unprecedented Crackdown On Anti-CAA Rioters; Arrests 1,100, Detains 5,500

In an unprecedented crackdown against anti-citizenship amendment act (CAA) rioters, the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has arrested 1,113 after filing 327 cases in connection with the violence, Indian Express has reported.

The administration has also placed 5,558 people in preventive detention.

As per the report, the 327 cases pertain to offences such as arson, vandalism, attempt to murder, rioting, attack on police force and violation of CrPC Section 144. The state government has also issued notices to 372 people to recover damages to public infrastructure by seizing their properties.

The UP cops have also pointed out that they have recovered 647 empty cartridges and 69 live cartridges as part of prohibited ammunition which was used by the rioters. Thirty-five country made pistols have also been recovered from those arrested.

The rioters had also managed to seize a service revolver from a Crime Branch inspector in Sambhal, which is yet to be recovered. The cops are also using drone cameras to identify the houses which were used to store bricks and stones used by the rioters.
