Former Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Corporator N R Ramesh has raised serious allegations over the transparency in the functioning of Indira Canteens. He has accused former chief minister Siddaramaiah and former Bengaluru Development Minister K J George for being involved in a scam that deals with the construction of the canteens in Bengaluru.

Modeled on the lines of Amma Canteen in Tamil Nadu, Indira Canteens gained a lot of political momentum for the Congress after its launch. The objective is to provide meals at affordable costs in all 198 BBMP wards.

Ramesh, who happens to be a BJP leader, has said that the bills have been inflated to show the construction cost of each canteen as Rs 19 lakh. He says the actual cost is Rs 10 lakh lesser than mentioned amount.

On Friday (14 December), he went on to file a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Deccan Herald reported.
