Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D anti-Covid vaccine will now be included in India’s vaccination drive as it has now begun delivering the first batch of its doses to the central government, Hindustan Times reports.

“We have started the supply of the three-dose ZyCoV-D to the Government of India. We are also planning to make it available in the private market,” the pharmaceutical firm’s official statement was quoted by the ANI.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had given the emergency use authorization (EUA) to ZyCov-D back in August 2021.

The vaccine has been priced at Rs 358 per dose and it will be administered to individuals in three separate doses on days 0, 28 and 56 respectively.

ZyCov-D is the only needle-free Covid-19 vaccine in the world and beneficiaries have to spend Rs 1074 for the total of three doses.

The vaccine has been given a clearance for children aged above 12 years and is the first one to have received authorisation for the below-18 age group.

So far, only Covaxin made by Bharat Biotech is used to vaccinate teenagers aged between 15-18 years.
