Chandy Oomen of the Congress has won the Puthuppally bypoll necessitated due to the death of his father, former chief minister Oomen Chandy.

According to a report by Onmanorama, Oomen's winning margin was 37,719, which is more than the highest margin of victory (33,255) secured by his father in the constituency during his over 50-year stint as MLA from Puthuppally.

Oomen received a total of 78,649 votes, followed by Jaick C Thomas of the CPI(M), who received 41,982 votes and G Lijin Lal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who received 6486 votes.
