Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has fielded Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora against Aaditya Thackeray, son of former CM Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai’s Worli constituency.

Thackeray is the candidate for the Shiv Sena (UBT). Deora, previously a Congress leader and Union Minister of State, joined the Sena earlier this year ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and was subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Shinde’s move to place Deora against current MLA and former state minister Aaditya Thackeray signals a highly competitive contest in Worli. The seat had been held by the undivided Shiv Sena for a decade.

Before his candidature was announced, Deora posted on X, "Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji believes that justice for Worli and Worlikars is long overdue. Together, we're paving the way forward and will share our vision soon."

After the candidature, he said, "I agree with Shiv Sena's decision to field me as Mahayuti candidate from Worli, Mumbai. I will try my best to understand the aspirations of every Worlikar and convey their voice to Eknath Shinde ji."

The list released on Sunday (27 October) revealed candidates for 20 seats, including BJP MP Narayan Rane’s son, Nilesh Rane, from the Kudal constituency for the assembly elections scheduled for 20 November.

The party also selected Legislative Council member and former MP Bhawana Gawali to run in Risod, Washim district, and MLC Amshya Padvi for Akkalkuva in Dhule district.

Former Lok Sabha member Sanjay Nirupam was nominated for Mumbai's Dindoshi seat, and ex-BJP leader Murji Patel for Andheri East. Former BJP MP Rajendra Gavit, who joined the Sena in 2019, will contest the Palghar assembly seat.
