Praising the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government's policies to promote the electronics manufacturing industry, Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath claimed that over 55 per cent of India’s mobile phones are now being manufactured in the state.
Speaking at the inaugural session of SEMICON India 2024 in Noida, Adityanath applauded the 'visionary leadership' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who brought the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for semiconductors and display manufacturing.
Stating that UP has made strides in the IT sector, semiconductors, data centers, and electronics manufacturing, the CM said, "As a result, 55 per cent of mobile manufacturing of the country and 50 per cent of mobile component manufacturing is happening in UP."
CM Yogi further noted that Uttar Pradesh has become a major exporter of consumer electronics. He mentioned that Samsung, which operates the largest mobile manufacturing plant in Asia in Noida, has also invested in a display unit facility in the city.
Adityanath emphasised the UP Semiconductor Policy 2024 which offers incentives, including subsidies on capital, interest concessions, and reductions in land, stamp duty, and electricity costs, to foster semiconductor development.
"Prominent companies like Mediatek, ERM, Qualcomm, NXP, Candence and Synopsis are established in the state. This will encoiurage local talent and innovation in semiconductor design and manufacturing. Hence, we have granted industry status to the IT sector," he said.
He elaborated that this move will allow IT sectors to take advantage of subsidised electrictiy meant for industries. He highlighted new initiatives to promote investment, making Uttar Pradesh a 'top achiever' in ease of doing business.
"There is a dedicated policy for Fortune Global 500 and Fortune India 500 companies. To maximise the use of technology for business convenience, over 450 online services are now available through the 'Nivesh Mitra' single-window portal," he added.
SEMICON India 2024, a three-day event in Noida, focuses on the global semiconductor ecosystem, featuring more than 250 exhibitors showcasing the latest innovations in semiconductors and electronics.
