Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday (16 April) declared its four Lok Sabha candidates from Punjab, giving tickets to three incumbent MLAs and one former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA.
The three AAP MLAs have been fielded from those respective parliamentary constituencies which constitute their respective assembly constituencies.
Muktsar MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar is fielded from Firozpur, Batala MLA Amansher Singh (Shery Kalsi) from Gurdaspur and Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi is fielded from Ludhiana.
In Gurdaspur, the BJP has cut the ticket of sitting MP Sunny Deol and instead fielded former Sujanpur MLA Dinesh Singh. SAD has fielded former Punjab Minister Daljit Singh Cheema.
Firozpur is an SAD bastion where the party has remained undefeated since 1998. Ludhiana has been represented by Congress since 2009, however, its sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is a BJP candidate this time.
Former SAD MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu is fielded from Jalandhar as a replacement candidate for former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, who joined the BJP after getting a ticket from AAP and got the BJP ticket.
Tinu represented Adampur, an assembly segment under Jalandhar parliamentary constituency, from 2012 to 2022. He joined AAP just two days ago.
He will now have to face former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi, who is a Congress candidate and Sushil Kumar Rinku, who is a BJP candidate.
