Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Tuesday (2 April) in Delhi liquor excise policy case.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), who arrested the AAP leader on 4 October 2023, granted him a concession and raised no objection against his bail plea.
The bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta and PB Varale allowed Singh to participate in political activities during the course of his bail as Lok Sabha elections are set to begin later this month.
The ED lawyer, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju was quoted by LiveLaw as saying, "Without going into merits, I will make a concession in the bail matter in the peculiar facts."
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued on behalf of Singh, compelling the Bench to observe, "Nothing has been recovered, there is no trace."
Singh was renominated to the Rajya Sabha in January as the court allowed him to file nomination papers and collect election certificate while being in jail.
The relief to Singh comes a day after AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was sent to judicial custody till 15 April in the same case. Reportedly, he has named another AAP leader Atishi.
