In a letter written to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has conveyed that Cabinet Minister Atishi would hoist the flag in the Independence Day celebration in his absence.
Kejriwal is in Tihar jail in the Delhi liquor policy scam. However, he has neither resigned from the post of Delhi CM nor declared anyone as an acting CM.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) revealed, "Kejriwal has written to LG Saxena from jail saying that Atishi will hoist the tricolour in his place on August 15 in Delhi government's celebration."
Atishi is among the senior AAP leaders and holds various portfolios including the Water Ministry. She has alleged multiple times that Kejriwal's health is being neglected in the jail.
The Delhi government's Independence Day function is held at Chhatrasal Stadium every year. It is a norm for the CM to hoist the flag and address the gathering thereafter.
