After Five-Week Surge, Covid-19 Cases In India See 25 Per Cent Decline; Weekly Tally Drops To 3,623

After a five-week surge, Covid-19 cases in India showed a notable 25 per cent decrease in the week ending Saturday (13 January), recording 3,623 fresh cases compared to the previous seven days' count of 4,862.

The number of deaths also saw a decline, dropping to 22 from 31 in the previous week, reported The Times Of India.

Major states witnessed a reduction in reported infections, with Kerala experiencing the most significant drop of almost 60 per cent, reporting 452 fresh cases compared to 1,109 in the last week.

Karnataka and Maharashtra, previously grappling with rising cases also registered a fall in numbers.

Karnataka, leading in new cases with 1,583, saw a decrease from 1,856 in the previous week.

Similarly, Maharashtra reported a dip from 915 to 709.

However, West Bengal reported a rise in cases, recording 218 new infections.

Despite the overall positive trend, some states like Gujarat showed an increasing trend, emphasising the need for continued vigilance and preventive measures.

Earlier, on 26 December, the tally of cases of the Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1 in India had reached 109, with 40 new cases.

As reported, 36 cases were detected from Gujarat, 34 from Karnataka, 14 from Goa, nine from Maharashtra, six from Kerala, four each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and two from Telangana.
