Approximately 15 individuals have been taken into custody from different parts of the country, including Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, for their suspected involvement in an Al Qaeda-inspired module, officials reported on Thursday.
Indian Express sources indicate that this action was part of a joint, intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Delhi Police's Special Cell, the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Jharkhand, and state police forces in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The module is believed to have been led by one person from Ranchi, who was aspiring to orchestrate grievous terrorist activities within the country. The members of the group have undergone indoctrination and weapons training at multiple locations.
Six individuals were apprehended in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, while participating in weapons training. In addition, approximately eight suspects have been detained from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for further questioning.
A Jharkhand police officer declined to share more information regarding the matter by calling the issue "very sensitive". "The media will be briefed accordingly," he added.
The searches were conducted in over 15 locations in Ranchi, one in Rajasthan and one in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh. The arrested individuals are being questioned at various places.
